Download wait time reduced!
03/07/2013 02:41 PM

Now when you want to download tracks you only have a 5 minute waiting period between each download.  Of course, if you use credits you still don’t have to wait at all.

Bulk Bonus Deals for Download Credits
01/20/2013 01:05 PM

As of now, the following bonuses are available when you donate to NESOST:

  • Donate $10-$19 and get 100 bonus credits ($20+ value).
  • Donate $20-$49 and get 1,000 bonus credits ($200+ value).
  • Donate $50 or more and get 10,000 bonus credits ($2,000+ value)!

“Bonus credits” means that the extra credits are ADDED to the amount already calculated from the donation amount.  For example, at 5 credits per dollar, if you donate $15 you will receive your normal 75 credits PLUS 100 bonus credits.  What a deal, right?

I may change or eliminate these deals at some point (don’t worry, I’ll make an announcement if I do), so if you’re interested in lots of credits and want to get a good deal, act quickly.

New Chat!
01/20/2013 12:35 PM

Hey, guys!  I’ve got a new feature for you.  I’ve installed a chat onto the NESOST site.  See the top left navigation for the link.

Also, soon I’m going to implement a referral system that will let you earn credits by referring people to the site.  Stay tuned.

Some Fixes and Features
01/05/2013 08:17 AM

During the past few days, I’ve had a problem with the donation system as it was not properly updating user accounts when donations were made.  I have now found the problem and corrected it, so let’s hope things work properly now.

NESOST members now have a way of contacting me directly!  It’s about time, too.  I’m a bit concerned about webcrawling spambots and such, so the contact info is only visible to logged in users.  You’ll see it under the game title search form up above.

ALSO!  Are you sick of the ads?  I know they’re not the worst, but they’re still annoying.  Now, if you maintain at least 25 credits ($5 worth) in your account, your NESOST browsing experience should be completely ad-free.  If you want to add credits to your account to get rid of the ads but not spend them on downloads, simply wait through the waiting period between downloads as you normally would and credits will not be deducted.

I know I’ve said this before, but soon I would like to add a referral feature that will earn you credits simply by referring people to the site.

A Few Site Changes
12/19/2012 11:47 AM

I normally don’t keep a close eye on this site.  It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that I mostly designed it to maintain itself.  However, recently I have noticed that there were some design flaws that needed to be addressed.  For example, I’ve been noticing that some people were creating multiple accounts with the same email address.  This is a no-no, so I’ve updated the registration process so that users are now unable to do this.  I’ve also deleted all accounts who have been registered with duplicate email addresses.  I’m sorry, but I had to do it.  You’re welcome to create a new account with your email address again, but only one this time, okay?

I want to offer the ability to use the site ad-free to users who have met certain conditions, but I’m not quite sure how to do this yet.  I’m currently waiting to hear back from my ad hosting service to see what they have to say.

Last but not least, I’d like to send out a big THANK YOU to the contributor who donated to the site this morning.  Thank you very much!

Ads? Why Ads?
07/01/2012 10:42 AM

Let’s be honest.  Ads suck.  I hate ads.  I hate it when I go to websites and get hammered with ad after ad.  So, why then have I chosen to allow ads on my site?  It all boils down to revenue.

It doesn’t really cost me much to build and maintain this site.  However, it does take time, and as a web developer, the more time I spend on this site the less time I’m spending doing things that actually pay the bills.

I love being able to provide this site, so I’m going to keep it going, but for now I want to keep the ads on to help get a little back for my time.

I’d like to provide an option to get rid of ads via donating, and that will come soon.

I’m pretty surprised at the sheer number of users that have been registering and have been active on this site.  Thank you all.

Credits System
05/29/2012 08:55 PM

Rather than provide different account levels with different privileges, I decided to go with a credit system.  Users who have credits can spend those credits downloading tracks immediately, bypassing the normal wait time between downloads.  Currently the only way to earn credits is by donating to the site (must be logged in and on the ‘Get credits’ page).

Basically the way it works is that you get 5 credits for every dollar donated.  You donate 5 bucks, you get 25 credits.  It’s that simple.  Partial dollar amounts will get you partial credits.  For example, if you donate $1.50, you’ll get 5.5 credits.  The partial credit amount can’t get you anything itself, but it adds up.  If you donate $2.50 now and $1.50 later, you’d get 16 credits total (15 for the 1+2 and 1 for the .50+.50).

Another way to earn credits is by referrals.  I haven’t set this up yet, but I’m going to set up a referral system so that referring people to the site will earn you credits.  It’s a great alternative for those who cannot (or just do not want to) donate.

As with anything new, there may be some bugs to work out, so please let me know if you run into any problems.  Hmmm.  Come to think of it, I haven’t provided a way for you to actually contact me.  I’ll set something up soon.

Back in Business?
05/28/2012 12:07 AM

So it’s been over a year since I’ve paid any attention to this site.  I think it’s time I get the ball rolling again.  I might redesign some of it.  I might go with lighter colors or something.

I’m also going to divide membership into different levels.  Standard accounts will still have access to all of the tracks, but there will be limits and waiting periods in place.  Upgraded accounts will have these limits removed.  Still deciding on the details, though.

04/07/2011 07:37 AM

If you look over on the left (if you’re logged in), you’ll see something that says “You have … credits.”  It should say zero for now.  I’ll begin to use a credit system soon, which means you will be required to have credits in order to download stuff.

I’m not sure how I’ll do it yet.   I might set it up like KHInsider does, giving you an option to either support the site through a donation or by earning credits through referrals.

We’ll see.
